Bintang Plaza

Bintang Plaza: Total floor areas of 400,000 square feet, more than 100 shops, fast food and beverage outlets, bookstore, watch shop, boutiques, optic center, pharmacies and footwear stores. On the third floor is a 24-lane bowling alley, a food court and a cineplex while an indoor archery sports centre is located on the lower roof level.

The Bintang Plaza is the star complex of Miri, for its completeness and comprehensive array of shops and entertainment outlets. "Bintang" means "Star" in Malay language, and most appropriately so. It is currently still (as of 2006) the only complex with both a cineplex and bowling alley in one in Miri. The complex was opened in 1996.

Everythings else are ok inside the plaza, except for the lousy cinema. Very hot, no air-cond, toilet expensive but not clean. The cinema should not charge exorbitant price as the place is very lousy. The management should take some action to do some renovation to improve the place. As for the equipment, need a lot of improvement so that the movie will not stop in the middle of showing. We had to go back cause the movie 'spiderman' was stuck & stop in the middle of showing. Really dissappointed. The cinema has lost one customer as I will never go back there. Will tell all my friends not to go to that lousy cinema. How can I recommend a place which only result in disappoinment..??

i m living in miri. i m so glad that seeing miri has been promoted to become a city 4 yrs ago. we have quite a few big shopping complexes tht have become point of visiting for travellers especially those from brunei not to mention our local ppl alone. and i believe shopping complexes are the most frequent places tht parents bring their children to hang around besides parks. i m one of the mother who do this always but everytime i bring my one n a half-month-old baby to any one of the shopping mall, i could hardly find a "pleasant" place for napkin change. sometimes i do it on the floor in a changing room if lucky to find an empty one. sometimes i do it on a bench at the corridor where ppl passing by non-stop n keep looking at my action. i duno how do other parents do n feel but myself, feel so embarrasing. it is not only bringing inconveniences to parents but a bad image for visitors who come all the way to Miri, the so called "tourist city". we dont see this problem in KL shopping malls cos almost all of the malls provide changing room for the little one. some of them even provide hot water in a thermos. i think the management of miri shopping malls should aware of this n do something. i dont expect hot water to b ready there but at least, a small room next to the ladies will be appreciated.

Hi TJ and Anonymous, I've taken the liberty to forward your comments to Bintang Plaza management and hopefully they'll take action. I regularly go there as well, and quite frankly, it may have its quirks and a dodgy cinemplex but I preferred it than any other complex.

We appreciate your feedback on this site, and I'm sure Bintang Plaza management will, too.
