31st January 2009 - Six houses buried, two damaged in Miri landslide

Six houses were buried in a landslide at Kampung Lereng Bukit, which is located near the Grand Palace Hotel in Miri.

Two other houses were also damaged.

The first landslide happened at 9.40am yesterday, followed by a second two hours later.

There were no casualties as all the 70 occupants of the affected houses escaped before their homes collapsed.

It is highly fortunate that there are no lives lost in this disaster as it happened with a warning and in broad daylight. Several other places in Miri were in danger of landslides as well due to the heavy rains.
