MIRI: The 300-km long mountain-logging road right to the top of the Bario highlands in northern Sarawak will permanently damage the ecology and weather systems in Sarawak's interior, warned environmental-watchdog group Borneo Resources Institute.

Institute coordinator for Sarawak, Raymond Abin, said this road might result in more highland forests being logged and this would spell the end of the pristine nature of Bario.

reading the above issue had prompted me to share my view on the Road which Nelson Balang considered priority versus long term impact on the landscape as well as the ecology system. In the light of Rural development which is important to benefit the rural people, but we also would like to weight the consequences. We need to be selective . what would be the point of having the road when the ecosystem and weather changes, let alone the damage to forest ecosystem to name a few , benefit to the people when they could not utilized the land and produce crops as the system had been damage. In five to ten years down the line, the people of Bario and the hinterlands could not enjoy the healthy life , the cooling weather, the clean air they are breathing , the good food crop produced now versus the road ? Nelson Balang who hails from the similar areas had never been a farmer himself to know the changes over the years resulted from these environmental ecosystem on the crop and padi in particular which is the main crops of the area had been upset.????? road versus the long impact of these should be considered rather the face value as the YB championed .
