Taman Selera Again

Recently went back to Taman Selera for a good look of the place. The last time I went there was January this year.

I took more photos. I have to apologize in advance because I was using a crappy camera branded "AhPek" "AipTek" and therefore the results of the photos become just as crappy as its name sounds. Surprisingly though, pictures of the sky - as you'll see later on - are quite nice from this camera.

When we got there, there was a horseback riding activity of some sort and children are just lining up for some brokeback horseback riding action. Brilliant! I never knew there were horses in Miri - chances are these are from our nice neighboring country Brunei. nice neighboring town Bintulu.

Here's how the beach side looks like nearby the chalets that hosted the legendary world-wide St Joe Girl's Fight Event 2006 that put Miri on the map to the world (in all the wrong ways - well, bad publicity is still good publicity I guess). It's a sad sight. Apparently, it's a good idea to cut the already dying trees and then just leave them to rot in the sea water at high tide... which just took longer than it seemed.

Here's a picture of one of the two fishing piers. Notice anything out of the ordinary?

Yes, those lights are gone! Either stolen, or vandalized, washed away by the waves or wind. ALL of them. This pier was built in.. what - 2005? And now it looks like it's at least 20 years old. Some of the wooden planks on the floor are messed up real bad too. Looks like the condition's gotten worse since pictures were taken by Loong.junkz.com last time.

This used to be a light pole, notice how even the basket for the bulb is missing. Even the covering for the wires and cables inside is missing.

Remember the square vs. round man holes I've been blogging about? Here's a picture. Which is all good except..

They kept getting stolen.

And another.

And this one was repaired quite creatively.

I know of someone who has horses in Miri. It's at the rural area though. The manhole... I never notice it's not round in Miri... perhaps they really should look into making round ones and HEAVY ones so that it doesn't get stolen.

This is what I heard though, the Miri City Mayor brought the horses here from Bintulu as part of the Miri City Celebrations event, not from Brunei as I'd thought.

It was taken with a cheap compact digital camera. Since then (this post is 2007) I have an Olympus for better shots. I don't have interest in getting an SLR for what is low-res web shots.

Thanks for the comment.
