Malindo Air Miri - KLIA Daily Flights

MIRI: Malindo Air, Malaysia's first hybrid airline, made its maiden landing at the Miri Airport at 10.20am from KL International Airport (KLIA). The flight - Boeing 737 900-ER carring 150 passengers took two hours and 10 minutes to arrive in Miri.

These flights are set to continue on a daily basis starting Mid-June, departing KLIA - Miri at 8.10am and from Miri - KLIA at 11.05am.

Malindo Air, which started operations on March 22, offers complimentary flight entertainment, in-flight snacks, 20kg luggage allowance for economy class passengers and 30kg luggage allowance for business class passengers.

Malindo Air is a joint venture between Nadi of Malaysia and Indonesia's Lion Air, based in Malaysia

Pustaka Miri Extends Philately Exhibition Until June 9th 2013

The Malaysia Record-breakingexhibition, originally set to end on May 31, was extended to enable more visitors to view the Malaysia Book of Records’ (MBR) longest philately line. Only part of the record-breaking 69,689-metre philately materials will be exhibited, however. The extension is to give the opportunity for philately enthusiasts to view the exhibition, once they had come back to Miri the Gawai Dayak holidays.

The exhibition opens daily from 10am to 6pm.

Items on display include postage stamps, first day covers and postcards, some of which date back to Rajah James Brooke’s era. They were contributed by 35 individuals and six groups – including from the from SK Anchi, Miri Hospital, Sedidik Lembah Hijau’s kindergarten and Pustaka Miri.

Selamat Ari Gawai Gayu Gerai Nyamai! "Gawai" is a holiday unique to Sarawakians in Malaysia, celebrated tomorrow on June 1st.

Gawai Day or Gawai Dayak is a festive celebrated in Sarawak on 1st June every year is both a religious and social occasion. "Gawai" means a ritual or festival whereas Dayak is a collective name for all the natives races in Sarawak; the Iban, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, Murut people and more. In this manner, "Gawai Dayak" literally means "Dayak Festival". Such visit is more known as "ngabang" in Iban language. Dayak would visit their friends and relatives on this day. Other races also visit those celebrating Gawaii during the holidays.

"Gayu guru gerai nyamai, lantang nguan menua" when translated means "Always have longevity, good health and good judgement."

Malaysia Book of Records : Philately Line 696.89m!

Miri enters The Malaysia Book of Records! From the event Malaysian Book of Records Attempt of Longest Philately Miri now holds the longest philately line of 696.89m made from over 28,000 items at the Miri Civic Centre in Malaysia.

The attempt is the brainchild of antique collector Lucas Johnny and supported by Pustaka Miri and Miri City Council (MCC). The team effort of 34 individuals and six groups from SK Anchi, Miri Hospital, Sedidik Lembah Hijau and Pustaka Miri. They contributed a total of 28,613 items comprising stamps, first-day covers and postcards. The minimum size required by the record book is about the size of an A3 paper.

The final line was completed on Friday. The “Philately Exhibition” is now being held at Pustaka Miri until May 31.

The public is welcome to visit from 10am to 6pm daily except on public holidays.
