THE Haunted House of Krokop

Most local-born Mirians from the 1970s to the 1980s would have heard of this story of this haunted house. The house, located near the main road at Krokop 10, next to the Krokop 10 Bazaar, was a typical wooden house on stilts of the colonial times, painted in a baby blue hue with some reddish accents along the windows, with a wooden staircase leading up to the second floor, where the actual living space is.

The house, as is typical of older wooden houses of the era and in Krokop, had windows that had wooden shutters which swing outwards on both sides, that when shut would close up the entirety of the windows which had no glass panes. The history of the house was long forgotten - nobody remembered the previous owners, or what happened to them, and the house sat abandoned for a very long period of time.

The ghost story that made rounds for the time goes like this - someone had decided that, either as a joke, or as part of their work to survey the house/land went with a friend to spend the night in a room at this supposedly empty wooden house. Nothing was out of the ordinary throughout the night, until the next morning, where the poor chap and his friend woke up outside the house the next day with their belongings outside the house.

Which sounds like what most ghost stories passed around by school children were like. In fact I first heard about when I was about 4 - 5 years old at Kindergarten, in Krokop.

The peculiar thing about this house though; and this was observed to be true by yours truly- any day anyone passed by the house and looked at it, its window shutters can be seen sometimes opened fully, and other times shuttered closed tight, but never half opened or closed - as would naturally be when blown by the winds, always randomly fully open or fully closed. Those of us who do took notice would observe this to be true. I for one do not believe in the supernatural but have observed the peculiarity of the window shutters.

By the mid 2000s this house had been demolished and built in its place are some shophouses that today so far have not had any haunting stories.

The location of this house was at 4.42655,114.00042
