During World War II, the Japanese used the building as their unit headquarters - it survived the allied bombing during that period and by 1945 it was occupied by the 2/13TH infantry battalion of the Australian Army until it disbanded at the closing stages of WWII.
This historic building retains the feel and architecture of the era, and features two helicopter landing pads. However this House is not available to public visit, but the historic mansion can be viewed from the main gate. It is considered a historical asset to Miri.

In the 1920s, these were the years when the Miri field began to decline. Exploration was carried out further and further afield. In 1926 an exploratory team had gone as far as Padang Barawa between the Sungai Seria and Sungai Barawa. Not much attention was paid to their findings then, but now with the Miri field declining the old maps and charts were taken out and studied again.
Miri was bombed by U.S. B24 Bombers during World War II. Some video footage of the bombing.
